CineConnect is a social movie & TV app. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and what we share.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use CineConnect, we may collect:
- Account data: display name, email, profile image (if provided by your sign-in provider), and an internal account identifier.
- Content you create: ratings (stars), optional review text, community threads, and replies you post.
- Reports & safety signals: if you report a thread or reply, we collect the report reason and any optional details you provide.
- Social data: friend requests and friend connections.
- Lists: items you add to your watchlist.
- Activity signals: app actions like viewing a title, adding to watchlist, or clicking a watch-provider link (sometimes with basic metadata like time spent on a page).
- Server logs: basic request metadata (like timestamp, IP address, and user agent) for reliability and security.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Operate the app: sign you in, show your profile, and display your ratings, reviews, threads, and replies.
- Social features: help you find friends and show friend activity.
- Personalization: generate recommendations using your ratings, watchlist, and in-app activity.
- Safety & reliability: prevent abuse and troubleshoot issues.
What we share
- With other CineConnect users: your display name (or masked initials in community threads) and your ratings, reviews, threads, and replies may be visible to others. Your email is not shown to other users.
- With service providers: we use third-party infrastructure to run CineConnect (hosting, databases, and monitoring).
- With content providers: CineConnect fetches movie/TV metadata from TMDB.
- With recommendation vendors (if enabled): we may use a vector database (Pinecone) to power recommendations. This uses derived embeddings from your activity/ratings (not your email).
- External links: if you tap a watch-provider link, you’ll be redirected to a third-party site and their privacy policy applies.
Cookies & sessions
On web, we use an HTTP-only session cookie to keep you signed in. On mobile, the app may use a token for the same purpose.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your account data and your content (ratings, reviews, threads, and replies) while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete Account. If you need help, contact us at the email below.
Community moderation
To keep the community safe, we review reports and may limit, hide, or remove content that violates community rules or appears abusive or unsafe. We use report information to investigate and take action.
